Root cause analysis based on ILI data
Objective
Maximization of the value of in line inspection data.
Issues
Magnetic flux leakage and other inspection methods such as above-ground CIPS or DCVG surveys, external UT inspection, etc. locate and size metal anomalies in the pipe wall. This information is used in fitness-for-purpose assessments.
In addition, the information can also be used to diagnose active corrosion mechanisms and to provide a clearer focus for the risk assessment procedure, for example for un-piggable pipelines or pipelines which have not been inspected before.
The diagnostics service includes the following components:
- Analysis of CP shielding caused by loss of adhesion in field applied pipe coatings and field joint coatings
- Assessment of disbonded coatings with active corrosion
- Assessment of the causes of internal corrosion in gas and oil lines
- Identification of pre-service corrosion and defects
Assessment of the significance of out-of- specification operation for pipeline and coating degradation
- Diagnosis of external interference
Deliverables
- Root cause analysis of corrosion to identify appropriate mitigation measures
- Improved cost-effectiveness of control measures
